Play a key role in an innovative program for addressing the needs of teenagers who are at risk for self-harm and isolation from support. The Behavioral Health Division of Hawaiʻi Pacific Medical Group (HPHMG) seeks to address rising rates of teen depression and suicide by establishing the Teen Resiliency Program - as the Coordinator for this program you will provide meaningful, protective, and timely intervention to at-risk youth and their families. Based at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, the Coordinator of the Teen Resiliency Program will work with a broad array of multidisciplinary medical and Behavioral Health professionals. In this role, you will serve as a member of the Kapi‘olani Behavioral Health Service and collaborate with a team of pediatric psychiatrists, psychologists, an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

The Teen Resiliency Coordinator will rapidly establish evaluation, treatment, and disposition of teens presenting in the hospital Emergency Department or to medical specialists, and help to limit unnecessary medical workups or hospitalizations. Key objectives of this position will be to evaluate patient risk level, provide short-term and solution-focused treatment, and link youth to appropriate services. As the program grows, the Coordinator will serve as an important contact and gatekeeper to the patient, family members, school faculty, and primary care providers, providing guidance and consistent treatment to prevent or respond to risk concerns. In this pivotal position, the Coordinator will also work with other social service agencies, private and public schools, Child Protective Services, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division of the Department of Health, and others.

We are seeking a qualified Master’s Level Clinician who will coordinate with front-line medical staff in identifying and responding to at-risk youth before their symptoms escalate. Training and experience specific to pediatric, family, and solution-focused behavioral health interventions is highly desired, though additional funding for training and Licensure supervision is available to qualified applicants. The Coordinator will help patients learn to problem solve, minimize risk, respond to distress effectively, and access support when they need it. Outstanding customer service and communication skills and a commitment to delivering the highest quality health care to Hawai‘i’s people is highly desired.

Under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Federal Vaccination Mandate, all health care workers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved medical or religious exemption from receiving the COVID-19 vaccination.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Social Work. Must meet education requirements and be eligible for Hawai‘i state licensing. Current Hawai‘i Clinical Social Worker license (LCSW). Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card. Two (2) years of experience in a Master’s Level Behavioral Health role. Professional knowledge of pediatric risk issues, mental health concerns, and treatment interventions.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of social and mental health problems for adolescents and their families. Knowledge of adolescent crisis and suicide risk evaluation, prevention, and intervention.
