Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children is Hawai'i’s only maternity, newborn and pediatric specialty hospital. It is well recognized as Hawai'i’s leader in the care of women, infants and children. With 243 beds, the not-for-profit hospital delivers 6,000 babies a year, and is also a medical teaching and research facility. Specialty services for patients throughout Hawai'i and the Pacific Region include intensive care for infants and children, 24-hour emergency pediatric and adult care, critical care air transport and high-risk perinatal care. Over 1,500 employees and more than 630 physicians provide specialty care at Kapi'olani. The hospital is home to the Kapi'olani Women’s Center and the Women’s Cancer Center, and offers numerous community programs and services, such as specialty pediatric clinics, the Kapi'olani Child Protection Center and the Sex Abuse Treatment Center.

At Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children, the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit provides continuous acute care to newborns of up to three months, including meeting the complex psychosocial needs of both the child and their family. Nursing and medical support staff in the NICU work with the Neonatology team to care for premature babies and assist in pediatric surgeries, providing care to newborn infants with cardiovascular and/or respiratory disease and infants requiring treatments for various diagnoses including infection and surgery. Support and education is delivered to patients and family in an atmosphere that promotes bonding of the family unit.

This opportunity is for the new graduate nurse who has a desire to become a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse or the experienced nurse who wants to make a change. This NICU training program is designed to create an environment which provides the experienced and new nurse support through the transition process from student, to novice, to advanced beginner, to independent practitioner. The program will be 20 weeks in duration and will require a two-year work commitment upon successful completion. There will be no time away (PTO) allowed or granted during the training program. Must be available for rotation to night shift and any shift length (4, 8, 10 or 12 hours) for the duration of the training.

Minimum Qualifications: Current Hawai’i Registered Nurse (RN) license. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR card. Applicants must be willing to undergo a 20 week training program, in which no PTO or time off can be granted.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
